Funeral preparations for Queen Elizabeth
I just visited Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace
Greetings at this sombre time here in Britain following the death of Queen Elizabeth II - the longest reigning monarch in the history of this country. She ascended to the throne when Harry S Truman was US President and Winston Churchill was the UK Prime Minister. We grew up with this constant presence in our lives and she has now gone.
That will mean great changes. Many former British Empire countries that still recognised the queen as their head of state are likely to break away and become fully fledged republics. The ties that bind England, Wales, and especially Scotland are likely to weaken.
This week, sees preparations for the state funeral of the queen on September 19, 2022. This has been declared a Bank Holiday in the UK. This weekend, I went down to see what is going on at Buckingham Palace - the main royal residence - and St James’s Palace, the older royal centre of power in London. Here is what I discovered.
i wish i could say something profound, but it escapes me. Please know that many in the US including myself are saddened along with Britania at the loss of such an honorable, dutiful, graceful and gifted monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. With Her Majesty's passing, it seems the whole world paused, and praised her service and leadership. Tho' there were ups and downs that she weathered across time, she always seemed to come out on top of the situation given a little time. Her smile lit up so many rooms, congresses and chambers of government around the world. i doubt her approval will be out shown for any leader in a long, long time, if ever.
May Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in sweet peace,
As a cousin, ally and person with loads of UK heritage, i'll add, God save the King, with all respect,
All my best,
Chris
