Greetings Gold and Silver Level Templar knights! This is the magnificent basilica of Maria Maggiore in Rome. Believe it or not, the church contains part of the manger of Jesus.
Let the sceptics scoff - but at Maria Maggiore basilica, you can view pieces of wood that made up the manger of Jesus. And why not? Now whether you really think they came from the nativity stable is something I leave to you.
The divine crib is placed in an altar just below ground level with a thumping great statue of Pope Pius IX worshipping in front of it. Here is the manger!
And there was a priest lost in prayer before it when I visited. The altar was built in the nineteenth century and apparently used a great deal of marble from both Rome and Ostia. I’m guessing from ancient Roman ruins, which is kind of depressing and annoying.
